Aida 2009

The Aida Foundation Theatre Group’s second visit to the Sunshine Coast was a great success.  Aida was established in Verona in 1983 by a group of theatre performers and professionals who decided to join forces to promote children’s theatre. From the very beginning, it was set up as an open space where artists with different backgrounds could examine ideas, work together and produce new artistic creations. In 1987 the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities approved the association as an innovative permanent children’s theatre.  In 1996 the association became a private foundation.

The AIDA Group performed in various schools on the Sunshine Coast from the 31st August to the 8th September 2009. In addition, the group held an evening performance of Isabella Comica Gelosa ‘Il segreto di Arlecchino’ (Harlequins secret) at the Chancellor State College Theatre on Thursday 3rd September.

The event was opened and patrons were welcomed by  Bevan Brennan - Executive Principal of Chancellor State College, Mr John Bomben - President of the ISC and by Mr Jarrod Bleije - MP for Kawana.  Over 100 people attended this wonderful comedy play and experienced the magic of ‘La Commedia dell’arte”
The performance was in English with some sections in Italian.

The Fondazione Aida group will be returning to the Sunshine Coast in 2010 from the 12th July to the 26th July. Various performances and workshops will be advertised prior and leading up to the arrival of the group.

Anyone interested in hosting a performance at their Theatre or school or in attending any of the workshops should send in an expression of Interest to the Italian School Committee either by email or via fax on 5444 6323.
